Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

What a great second week of school we had!! These little kindergarteners are already learning so much! This week they learned the sound for the letters m and a and also practiced writing them. Continuing to write these at home and find objects that start with those sounds would be great practice. We practiced writing numbers 0-9 with our number rhyme. At home, see if they can write the numbers and sing the rhyme for you. We talked about the title, author, and illustrator of stories. They have started to practice sounding out words to go along with their pictures. They learned some new words, such as unique. They learned all about how they are unique and how we are different from one another and also how we are the same. Next week we will talk about feelings. Here is a few pictures of the kindergarteners hard at work.
The finished product of the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees. They turned out great!
Have a wonderful 3 day weekend!!

The First Week of Kindergarten

The first week of kindergarten went well!! We worked very hard on following the rules, listening, and being nice to others. This is something that we will continue to work on through the year. Next week we will begin learning about how we are all different and special and about the different feelings that we have. The newsletter is attached on the right side of the page and will also be sent home on Monday. A few things to work on at home would be rhyming, continuing to practice writing their names, and writing the numbers 0-9. I figured that I would let the kids tell you what they learned this week.

Getting Ready for Kindergarten

We have many wonderful things that we will learn and do this year, but here are a few things that you can do at home to help your child get ready for kindergarten.
- Have them practice tying their shoes
- Have them write their name
- Have them draw pictures
- Read to them
- Establish routines
- Practice letter sounds
- Practice counting
- Set a few rules and stick to them

Here is a fun video by Jack Hartman that helps children learn the letter sounds and words associated with that letter.  Enjoy!

Welcome to Kindergarten

Welcome to Mrs. Farwell's kindergarten class!  This blog will be updated weekly with information and pictures about what is going on in our classroom.  You will be able to peek in to our classroom and see the wonderful things that your child creates.  Along with telling you about the things we have been learning that week, I will also give suggestions of what you can be working on at home.  Feel free to leave comments or questions, but pleast make sure that they are school appropriate.  I cannot wait to get the school year started!
